Our Apple iPad Review
Apple iPad
It hit the market with fireworks. It sold over a million in less than one month. The Apple iPad called one of the most ingenious moves in technology in the last few years. For several years Apple set the public up for the release of the iPad. They promised big things using the words ‘magical’ and ‘revolutionary’. Well, it is here. People love or people hate it. Is it ingenious or is it a large iPhone?
The stark design of the iPad is nothing new. That seems to be basic Apple fare. The suffice is composed of the capacitive, multitouch LED backlit display at 9.7 inches, 1024 x 768. The display screen is framed in glossy black bezel. It is wide – too wide by some estimations – but it will keep you from activating the touchscreen by accident. Curved aluminium covers the back.
Design
Let’s begin our iPad tour with a look at the buttons . The famous Apple home button is located in it centralized position – comfortable for anyone who uses an iPhone and easy to grasp for new users. A volume control and screen position lock is located on the upper right hand side of the device.( The screen lock is a needed feature that keeps the screen in landscape or portrait mode even when angled another way.) The power button and headphone port are located on the top edge while the signature Apple 30 pin dock connector is standard of the bottom of the device.
Internally, the iPad runs on the PA Semi-designed 1GHz A4 system on a chip. It comes with 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a digital compass, an accelerometer, a mic, and an ambient light sensor. The device seems capable of opening web pages and playing games with ease. The photo application offers high resolution pics with zoom. One drawback seems to be the lack of multitasking – you can only use one app at a time. This is a but frustrating with a powerful system like the iPad.
The first thing you notice about the iPad is the screen. It offers vivid colors and can render black and white as well. It includes an ereader – iBooks – with a brightness control option to make it easy on the eyes. We have heard the rumors of the iPad hurting your eyes if you read with it for a long time. However, we have tried an found this not to be true in our case.
What We Liked
Overall, the iPad is a great leap forward in technology. It is more than just a large iPhone or iTouch. We love the tying option, iBooks, downloadable magazines, the powerful operating system, and the high res camera. As with all things Apple we get lost in the app store. There is always a tendency to over load on apps but if you can keep that under control you will have sleek and classy device.
What We Disliked
The lack of a webcam is a huge setback. We had hoped that Apple could come up with some way to incorporate the webcam into the device. Also, the headphone port location – at the top of the device – makes no sense at all.
The Final Verdict
Would we purchase the iPad? Yes! It meets and surpasses expectations. The drawbacks are few and it is hoped that Apple will address them in future generations.
