Apple iPhone 4S

The latest Apple iPhone – the 4S does not disappoint. The iPhone 4S is smart looking in its design with a simple sleek form and a stainless steel band with four notches. The antenna switching capability is one of the phone’s intelligent upgrades. The band accommodates a top and bottom antenna easily found by locating the stainless steel corners with notched u-shape sections. Those notched sections are one of the reasons the ‘deathgrip’ or blockage of transmission, problematic with the iPhone 4, incurred by the way the phone is held is greatly minimized.

What We Liked

There is plenty to like about the Apple iPhone 4S. You can start with the fact the vibration is smooth and almost silent. This is due to a redesigned vibration unit. When the phone vibrates, you won’t feel as if you’ve been rudely interrupted whether on a phone call or not. Intrusive phones are annoying, and if you agree with that statement, you’ll appreciate the 4S.

There is a lot more to like though than the unobtrusiveness of the vibration. One of those features is the fact the transmission antennas are designed so that the phone is able to automatically switch between the two receiving antennas described earlier so you will experience much less transmission fading. Other feature improvements in technology include faster web page load times when using the internet browsing feature; a greatly improved 8MP camera; a faster A5 processor and double the storage of the iPhone 4. The performance is remarkable and its ability to handle apps with speed is notable.

Of course, the feature so many people couldn’t seem to wait to buy was Siri or the virtual assistant you can talk to using your own voice and that will give an intelligent response back. You may not have ever had a burning desire to talk to your cell phone, but once you get used to using Siri, there will be no turning back. For those who are poor communicators, Siri can handle your needs too. It is proactive and will ask questions until it gives you the information you were really trying to find. Siri can send emails and text messages, play your favorite songs, give you directions and help you remember to pick up the kids after softball practice. What’s not to like?

What We Disliked

Some people don’t think that the iPhone 4S makes enough changes to the iPhone 4 to justify its release as a new version. It’s like Apple produced a phone just to introduce Siri. For example, the 3.5 inch screen may seem quite small if you are already loving your iPad and are used to watching videos and browsing the internet on a medium sized screen. Some users are quite disappointed that the phone looks so much like the iPhone 4. How are people supposed to know you have bought the latest greatest iPhone? The rumors of a teardrop shaped iPhone 5 didn’t help the matter.

As for Siri, even there some users finding disappointment in it. For example, Siri can’t add contacts nor can it open apps. What do you want to bet that the iPhone 5 will correct these minor deficiencies?

Our Final Verdict

If you are upgrading from an Apple 3G phone or a non-Apple phone then you will are sure to be thrilled with the iPhone 4S. If you are already an Apple 4 owner then you will be more than satisfied with the quality and performance of the 4S. You are also sure to learn how to appreciate Siri. Even if you don’t find Siri useful, all the other features and the quality make this phone worth the money.
