Nokia 2730

Our Nokia 2730 Review
Design
The Nokia 2730 brings sexy back with its classic candy bar elegance. With its glossy screen, brushed metallic texture, and beautiful curves, the Nokia 2730 is minimalist and clean. Tthe handset boasts a smooth back plate that nestles comfortably in your pocket and carrying the 2730 is enjoyable as it is as light as it gets at 88 grams.
Screen
The Nokia 2730 sports a classic 2 inch screen that provides a good viewing experience. The colours are beautifully contrasted with good brightness levels and pixel density. On the downside, the screen is glossy and can be quite annoying outdoors as the reflections will reduce the display’s quality.
User Interface
Like its design, the Nokia 2730 sports a minimalist, friendly user interface. Navigating through the menus is easy and we reached what we needed with no more than 3 clicks. Such simplicity goes great with the various featured packed in this compact handset. On the downside, we found that the Nokia 2730’s performance and speed varies according to the application used.
Keypad
The Nokia 2730’s keypad rows are separated by embossed silver lines. Each row, however; is merged, which can impair usability. The function buttons are stylish, but flat, we would’ve loved for the Nokia 2730 to have raised function buttons instead. The D-pad can be easily navigated with great direction feedback.
Camera and Multimedia
In the multimedia department, the Nokia 2730 is pretty much average. Starting with its 2 megapixel camera, the Nokia 2730 delivers average photo quality. A slight lag is evident between capturing the photo and storing it, which can be problematic for those aiming for fast burst shoots. We weren’t too keen on the colours’ saturation and sharpness, but we thought the camera played nicely in comparison to other handsets in the same price range.
The built-in FM radio and music player provide good audio quality. The music player’s interface is pretty much standard with no extra icings. We were able to play mp3 files with clear, crisp quality that resonated with warmth. Video playback isn’t what we expected, but it will definitely do for the average user rather than a multimedia buff.
Video playback is as great as it gets with the Sony Ericsson Satio. The video player brings great quality and performance for the various file formats supported.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Nokia 2730 is equipped with great connectivity features that we were surprised to find in such a price range. Connectivity includes: Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, Flash Lite, 3G, and EDGE. We were impressed with the Flash Lite integration as it greatly boasts the web surfing usability.
In addition to the preinstalled email and web browser, we found the Windows Live Messenger to be a great feature. Not only do we get to check our inbox, but also stay connected with friends without shelling out money on an expensive handset.
The Nokia 2730’s battery life is one of the best in the markets. As the handset does not utilize heavy multimedia, we can leave the Nokia 2730 on our desk for weeks without recharging. With web browsing and music playback, an average user should expect to recharge his handset every couple of days.
What We Liked
We liked the Nokia 2730’s battery life, connectivity features, featherweight, and sleek design.
What We Disliked
We disliked the Nokia 2730’s outdoors screen performance, keypad design, and camera quality.
Our Final Verdict
The Nokia 2730 is no iPhone, but it will definitely do a lot for a user with minimal multimedia needs. At such a price tag, the connectivity features included are a steal of a deal. We loved working with the Nokia 2730 due to its simplicity and no-fluff approach. One thing to lookout for is the somewhat confusing keypad design and glossy screen. The stylish Nokia 2730 is a great choice for anyone on the move as it is light and durable. Not to mention, it comes with a superb battery life.

RichardB submitted on 2 November 2009You can't possibly go wrong with the 2730. I love the design and 3G support. The browser is a breeze with flash and html, couldn't ask for more in a handset. Design wise, I love the minimalism as it goes with today's web 2.0 trend.
Loca submitted on 30 October 2009The Nokia 2730 is a great mobile phone that looks ordinary but is packed with awesome features. It's design like an anti-theft system, no one could possibly know it's that precious with its content.
