Our Nokia 6120 Review
Design
The Nokia 6120’s design is as classic as it can get. The plastic and steel edges, the conventional D-pad and keys, and its solid rectangular build contribute to this look – something you’d expect in 1999 not now. It comes in shiny silver and glossy black. At 89 g, the Nokia 6120 is light and easily fits in your pocket and nestles comfortably in your palm. The black Nokia 6120 is somewhat of a finger print magnet, the silver version probably is but the fingerprints are concealed with the silver gloss and light reflections.
Screen
At 2.0 inches, the Nokia 6120 sports a 16 million QVGA 240x320 that we thought is modest by market standards. The 6120's screen delivers reliable quality and colors, though the brightness and contrast are a bit off in different lighting conditions.
User Interface
The Nokia 6120 runs a smartphone user interface with a standard multitasking design enabling you to run different applications at the same time. The menus and icons are easy to navigate through with smoothness and speed. No matter how many applications we had on, we did not face any crashes or slowing down showing the Nokia 6120’s stellar performance. It comes with handy out-of-the box applications that the user can use hassle-free.
Keypad
The Nokia 6120’s keypad is quite traditional in its arrangement. We found the spacing between buttons to be quite modest, which wouldn’t offend hadn’t our fingers been large enough to feel discomfort. It took us some time to get used to the keypad, after all, who isn’t using a QWERTY keypad in this age?
Camera & Multimedia
The Nokia 6120’s 16 million colour QVGA screen is utilized beautifully by the 2.0 megapixel camera. The camera comes with standard flash, with a secondary camera on the front for video-conferencing. Though the camera’s photo quality is modest with the colours a bit washed out, you can still shoot decent photos in different lighting conditions. Video capture is no different, though it is a bit jerky.
In the multimedia department, the Nokia 6120 sports great playback support for formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, and MP3. Its media player comes with a smart interface categorizing the music library by album, genre, playlist, or artist. Add to that, the five equalizer profiles give music a unique edge with customize stereo widening and bass. If you’re in love with ringtones as much as we are, you’d be glad to know that you can utilize over 12 audio format for your ringtone including MP3, WAV, and eAAC+. We were eager to find a 3.5 mm standard audio jack, only to find a 2.5 mm jack – a shame for a handset with such great music playback.
The video player is quite versatile with the option to convert your videos to MP4 files. Video playback is a bit slow at times, but will suffice for most users .
Connectivity & Battery Life
The Nokia 6120 comes out of the box with great connectivity for such a price tag. In fact, it is one of the most affordable 3G HSPDA, Bluetooth 2.0, and USB 2.0. We would’ve loved to see Wi-Fi integration as it would’ve been the cherry on top.
The web browser supports flash and javascript making it great for YouTube and other social networking websites. Using the browser, we felt at home as though we’re using our desktop or laptop at home. The zoom and orientation controls are quite handy and easy to set up. To complete the package, Nokia threw in a built-in PDF viewer, QuickOffice Viewer, and an instant messenger compatible with common messenger services.
What We Liked
Its Bluetooth stereo, 3G HSDPA and USB port.
What We Disliked
The Nokia 6120 is a bit of a fingerprint magnet surface. Its not-as-impressive camera./p>
Our Final Verdict
The Nokia 6120 is a great out-of-the-box handset. It comes with great connectivity at an affordable price tag. The browsing experience is superior and outmatches many high-end handsets in the Nokia lines and competitor brands. If you’re an addicted web surfer with a budget, the 6120 is your number one choice.
