Our Nokia C5-03 Review

Taking the best from two hot trends – smartphones and touch screens – the Nokia C5-03 is one of the premier affordable choices with a lot of bang for your pound.

The Design

The Nokia C5-03 is a step in the right direction for our eco-friendly patrons. The entire phone body is eighty percent recyclable. Plus, over one-half of the packaging materials are from recyclables – and can be recycled.

Eco-friendly aside, how does the phone fare in the competitive cell phone market? The C5-01 is a low priced phone that allows for high speeds connections. It contains the fastest CPU on any Nokia (S60). It comes with voice guided navigation, a free resource that is considered a huge advantage over every other platform. Its SatNav is totally free and works across the globe. Amazingly, you can download every map you will ever need free of charge. If is a Ovi map you can download the map without having a data connection.

When you look at your Nokia you will see that screen size gives up prominence to compact design. The phone comes in two colors with accents. The two primary choices are black and white. You can choose highlights in black, lime, green, petrol blue, aluminum grey, and lilac. This makes it a top phone for color choice with ten various color combos. The accent colors surround the 3.2 resistive TFT LCD screen. Immediately below the screen are the hardware buttons on the device. On the right side of the phone is the volume control and the lock button. The left side of the phone is port and button free. The top of the phone contains wired ports – the 3.5 audio port, the microUSB port, the 2mm charger port. On the flipside you will discover the camera and the loudspeaker.

What We Liked

We love the mix of smartphone capabilities and touch screen user interface. Yes, it has been around for a while but to see it done simply and seamlessly is refreshing. The GPS receiver with free lifetime voice navigation is one of our favorite features. You will not find this on any other platform. It even streams city guides and traffic info! The audio quality is excellent for this category phone and it responds well to voice commands. The digital compass, on board storage, and Symbian OS increase ease of use. The 5 mega pixel camera and VGA video is a plus on this style phone, the only drawback being the lens discussed below.

What We Disliked

The Nokia C5-03 does not have an abundance of third party software available. The viewing angles for the phone could be improved. When in the sun it is difficult to read the screen. The phone lacks smart dialing features. Finally, with no PDF editor or office editing document tools it does not perform well as an out of office back up.

The Final Verdict

This is fantastic phone for beginning smart phone users. If you have never used a touch screen it is an excellent trainer, Without too many bells and whistles you will not get overwhelmed but will find most of the functioning power you want in a phone.
