Nokia E7

3 DirectThe Nokia E7 is well designed down to even the smallest details. The top of the phone is where the 3.5 mm headphone jack is located in addition to the power button, the mini-HDMI port, and a microUSB port.
Our Nokia E7 Review
The Nokia E7 is a beautiful and stylish phone. It is hailed as one of the largest of the Symbian smart phones. At a time when Nokia is deciding the future of Symbian the sales of this cool new device will help determine whether it stays around or not.
Hardware and Performance
The E7 is available in a choice of black or silver – both are very chic and look to have been designed by an architect. The hardware is contained in a flattened aluminum cylinder. The smartphone has a 4 inch capacitive glass screen on the top side. On the flip side is an 8 megapixel camera with a glass window protector. It includes a dual LED flash. The body is halved with the thinner section housing the menu key and a tilt out display screen. The other section houses the physical keyboard, camera, and electronics. The keyboard is the familiar QWERTY model.
The Nokia E7 is well designed down to even the smallest details. The top of the phone is where the 3.5 mm headphone jack is located in addition to the power button, the mini-HDMI port, and a microUSB port. The bottom of the phone souses the microphone and a speaker. The right side of the phone is where the volume control is located along with the camera button.
What sets this smart phone apart from the pack are the tilt out display and physical keyboard. You really have to give them a try to appreciate them. The 4 inch AMOLED touch screen is equally impressive and you will be able to read the screen even in direct sunlight with good brightness control.
Software
The Nokia E7 operates using Symbian. In our opinion this software is behind the times but fortunately does appear to be a huge drawback to this phone. The phone comes with bundled apps from Nokia including the Ovi Store, Quickoffice, National Geographic, and many other starter apps.
What We Liked
This phone flat out looks great. It is slim and sexy and a joy to interface with. It gives you excellent battery time. We loved having the ability to multitask. The 8 megapixel camera is a great camera for the devices in this class and photo resolution is exceptional. The same can be said for video recording. You get excellent audio quality plus Smart/voice dialing capabilities. Stereo Bluetooth, b/g/n Wi-Fi, and even a pre-installed office document editor set this device apart.
What We Disliked
We are having a hard time with Symbian and hope Nokia will move on to something else soon. It is outdated and there are better options out there. The choices you find in the Ovi Store are second class compared to the Android Market and the App Store. There is no microSD slot – a strange thing to be missing froma smart phone in this class, and you cannot replace the battery.
The Final Verdict
Even with a fiew hits and misses this is an excellent phone. In fact, it is most likely the sleekest smart phone we have seen in a long time. If you are looking for style along with substance this may be the phone for you. For anyone on the fence about Symbian consider why you need a smart phone. If you will be doing heavy duty processing you may want to look elsewhere. If it is to be an everyday phone you will not notice any difference between Symbian and OS.
