Design
The Samsung B2700 (or Bound as its also known) looks like it’s been designed by Timberland. As we held it in our palm, we felt the rugged nature of its design. It is quite bulky in your hand as it in your pocket. Available in navy, red, and black, the Samsung B2700 appeals to all users with its different colours. The design is particularly invincible towards falls making it a great option for people camping and leading an active lifestyle.
Screen
At 1.9in, the TFT screen boasts 262,000 colours at a modest 176x220 resolution. It is clear and bright both in the direct sunlight and dark areas. The screen is no touch screen, but it definitely delivers the basic needed functions. We would’ve loved a bigger screen for better usability and photo clarity.
User Interface
The Samsung B2700’s simplicity isn’t only clear in its choice of design but also in its minimalist user interface. It provides basic functionality as well as unique customization options such as the theme creator. It comes with some neat tricks such the pedometer, compass, and altimeter – a definite bet for those trying to get in shape.
Keypad
The Samsung B2700’s rectangular keypad is rubber-coated for maximum durability but it contributes to lower press feedback. The D-pad is responsive with directions and easy to use. On the right side a standard camera shutter and flashlight button. The flashlight button is simply handy for anyone walking in the dark or camping.
Camera and Multimedia
The Samsung B2700’s 2.0 Megapixel may look modest, but at a 1600x1200 pixel resolution, it transcends the modest category. Many of the high-end handsets don’t even come near that resolution level making the Samsung B2700 a winner in this department. Throw in its basic photo and after effects, and you have a camera that becomes a great companion on trips and outdoor adventures. On the downside, the camera does not include autofocus or flash for improved lighting conditions.
Video capturing is yet another strength present in the Samsung B2700’s camera, as the quality is smooth. A supplementary video conferencing makes this handset great for taking calls out of the office.
The music and video playback is equipped with great support for common file formats. The interface is straight-forward with a no-fluff approach. The modest screen size, however; does not help with video playback. A bigger screen would’ve been a better choice for such a powerful handset.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Samsung B2700’s connectivity won’t disappoint anyone in need of quick web browsing. While it is not oriented for heavy browsing, it offers great 3G support. The WAP browser does not support HTML; therefore it is quite modest in its performance. Data transfer options include Bluetooth and USB 2.0 ideal for music syncing and video transfer.
We were a bitted confused by the battery life for the Samsung B2700. While this phone is tough on the outside, it gives out only 5 hours talk-time, as we’ve expected more given it is not heavy on multimedia or graphics.
What We liked
We liked Samsung B2700 ‘s durability, flashlight, and video conferencing camera.
What we disliked
The screen's performance and lack of HTML browser.
Our Final Verdict
The Samsung B2700 is a rugged phone suitable for users with an active lifestyle. Don’t expect this handset to shy away from falls or scratches, but it faces them with a solid durable face against most hazards. The camera’s powerful performance is commendable. We recommend this handset for anyone looking for functionality with a great price.

Adrienne submitted on 22 August 2009This mobile phone is very outdoorzy, if you're looking for something durable… this is it. The B2700 fell a couple of times on the ground without getting scratched or damaged… which felt great given that other handsets start acting crazy after such falls
