Our Samsung i8510 Review
Design
The Samsung i8510’s design glows with its high-end status. In glossy black, the Samsung i8510’s rectangular frame is pleasant to look at and hold. Though it is not pocket friendly, bulky and heavy, you cannot help but see its appeal.
Screen
At 2.8in, the Samsung i8510’s screen shines with a QVGA 240x320 resolution that makes any photo look good. The colours are electric and bright. Though, the screen isn’t at the size we expected it to be. The glossy screen can be nightmare to use under direct sunlight, however we found that by holding it at the ideal angle can be of great help for the screen’s performance.
User Interface
The Samsung i8510’s user interface is quite unusual in electric blue. It is quite traditional in its organization and the icons are self-explanatory. Using the standard list menus, the user can navigate through settings and applications hassle-free. While many may say the old interface is system is obsolete, the Samsung i8510 definitely does not need a widget system to look cool.
Keypad
The Samsung i8510’s bulky frame contributes to the keypad’s ergonomics. The button are plush and large for better great press feedback. The embossed function buttons are stylish and have great functionality. One thing that caught our eye is that the functional keys such ad the D-pad and call/end buttons are backlit. A great web browsing feature is the optical mouse included for facilitated scrolling, zooming, and browsing. However, we found that the D-pad does the job better but definitely appreciate Samsung’s efforts to give great options for users. Handy shortcut buttons are placed in the top of the alphanumeric keypad enabling quick access for your favourite applications.
Camera and Multimedia
The Samsung i8510’s 8 Megapixel camera is great bonus in this package. Equipped with SmileShutter and Face Detection, it competes with Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot models. The camera’s speed isn’t ideal and is not equipped for snappy shooting, but it definitely adapts to different lighting conditions. We loved the photo quality for its crisp, vibrant colours and great resolution.
Videos are no different than photos with the Samsung i8510. You can record videos that outmatch the quality of a home camcorder with ease. The video out is at 640x480 VGA making it easy to view it on your TV or laptop screen.
The built-in media player is average with its performance. With 17 equalizers, the use has plenty of options on how to produce the audio output. The standard 3.5 mm audio jack is yet another thing to love, as you can enhance audio with your favourite headphone set.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Samsung i8510’s web browser is among the best in the market. Pages are loaded rapidly with great visual organization and navigation options (optical mouse and D-pad). It comes with great flash and Java support for web page. You can easily load your favourite YouTube videos without crashing the interface.
The Samsung i8510’s connectivity includes: 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, GPS, and A-GPS.
While the Samsung i8510’s battery life is among the top performers on 2G, it only delivers an odd 2.5 hours talk-time, and 330 standby time on 3G.
What We Liked
We liked the Samsung i8510 for its 8.0 Megapixel camera, flash integration, 2.8in screen, and its standard 3.5 mm sound jack.
What We Disliked
We disliked the Samsung i8510 ‘s material quality and slider functionality.
Our Final Verdict
The Samsung i8510’s is powerful handset with great features. Combining great connectivity, camera, and web browsing experience, the i8510’s is great for any modern user. We found the price tag not-so-affordable, so we can safely say that it’s worth every penny you pay.

Brooksy submitted on 13 January 2009The i8510's slider is a bit clunky, but it comes with great youtube viewing and uploading
Annie G. submitted on 24 November 2008I was so glad to find that this samsung handset has flash in it. Many of the handsets I considered won't even play youtube videos, but this one's great
