Sony Ericsson Naite

3 DirectOne can’t possibly go wrong with the Sony Ericsson Naite’s user interface. The navigation between menus is smooth and rapid. Most functions are accessible within three clicks - great in terms of usability.
Our Sony Ericsson Naite Review
Design
Sony Ericsson’s handset naming has gone a bit out of hand, as every time we spend a good hour researching the naming choice. This did not diminish our readiness to test the Sony Ericsson Naite. Our first impression of the Sony Ericsson Naite is perhaps a sense of déjà-vu, as the handset is similar in design to much older Sony Ericsson handsets. Available in silver and red, the Sony Ericsson Naite is made from aluminium and plastic. For the environmentally conscious, it was a pleasure to know that the plastic used is recycled. This of course comes as part of Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart Programme where handsets undergo a major green check from the packaging down to the power efficiency tools and down to the smallest recycled parts. The design is ultra-slim and the frame is light fitting comfortably in our palm and pocket. Its subtle curves are classic.
Screen
The Sony Ericsson Naite’s 2.2-inch screen is disappointing given the phone’s classic design. While it is bright and offers good colour richness, it also rich in reflections under direct light sources be it outdoors or indoors. This of course reduces visibility at least by 40%.
User Interface
One can’t possibly go wrong with the Sony Ericsson Naite’s user interface. The navigation between menus is smooth and rapid. Most functions are accessible within three clicks - great in terms of usability. For users that are fairly confused with the endless applications installed on modern handsets nowadays, they’re going to love the Sony Ericsson Naite’s “essentials only” approach.
Keypad
The Sony Ericsson Naite’s keypad is one of the very few ones to furnish itself so comfortably. It extends through the entire space of the keypad area leaving only a small strip on the sides. The keys are wide and equipped with great feedback that makes this keypad great for texting. Sony Ericsson should adopt this keypad more often as it is exactly what the user needs.
Camera and Multimedia
The Sony Ericsson Naite’s multimedia profile is unfortunately stripped down to bear minimal. While we appreciated such an approach with the design and user interface, we thought such a move affected the multimedia department drastically. If we take the example of the 2-megapixel camera, we can see that the image quality is sub-standard and average at best.
For music and video playback, the Sony Ericsson Naite supports common file formats. The audio quality is average – nothing near the Sony Walkman Series. However, at such a price tag, we did not expect the audio quality to be any better. The Sony Ericsson Naite has access to the PlayNow Arena where the user can download music, games, and ringtones. This is where the connectivity features kicks in.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Sony Ericsson Naite is furnished with impressive 3G HSDPA connectivity. This of course works for the advantage of Sony Ericsson, as users can download more frequently from the PlayNow Arena.
We were disappointed by the lack of Wi-Fi integration as it would’ve made the Sony Ericsson Naite’s perfect. The general web browsing experience isn’t something to talk about. The screen size does not offer much viewing capacity therefore impairing most surfing activities.
We loved the battery life of the Sony Ericsson Naite. As we tested out the handset, it performed nicely without any crashing or battery drain which is ideal for a handset at this price. You can safely leave your Sony Ericsson Naite for days on the desk without worrying about plugging it in for recharging.
What We Liked
We liked the Sony Ericsson Naite’s 3G HSDPA integration, extended battery life, and straightforward user interface.
What We Disliked
We disliked the Sony Ericsson Naite’s multimedia profile and lack of Wi-Fi.
Our Final Verdict
The Sony Ericsson Naite’s is a minimalist’s dream. For those who consider handsets to be means of communication but nothing more, the Sony Ericsson Naite is a great choice. It is average in the multimedia department, so those in love with the Sony Ericsson’s high-end models should reconsider. The user interface is one of the simplest interfaces we’ve come across, a definite plus for any user seeking simplicity in life.

RickyZ submitted on 25 November 2009i was thinking it would be an average phone but it is def above average. It delivers a solid performance for the pounds I paid. Don't mind buying its next model next year!
StatingTheFacts submitted on 23 November 2009I just bought one today and love it so far. Spectacular. I would say this is an excellent set. To be honest, I was really shocked by the price tag of just an amazing hand set. Didn't even have to read the manual in the box!
