Our Sony Ericsson T715 Review
Design
It is hard to imagine the sense of déjà-vu we’ve experienced with the Sony Ericsson T715. From the very first moment we held it, we felt a sense of familiarity with its design, grip, and general look and feel. It didn’t take us much time to realize that the T715 is the slider version of the Sony Ericsson T700. Its slider form factor is the main reason behind its compact, thick, and rigid look. It’s solid but sophisticated due to the choice of material: brushed glossy aluminium.
Screen
At 2.2in, the Sony Ericsson T715’s screen is a bit smaller than the standard 2.4in screens we see on most of Sony Ericsson’s handsets line. The 240 x 320 QVGA display makes photos look good, but not stunning. One interesting bit is the fact that the T715’s screen performs great in direct sunlight – something many of the glossy handsets cannot handle.
User Interface
The T715’s interface is nothing out of the ordinary for a previous owner of a Sony Ericsson handset. The user interface is directly lifted from the standard UI used for low-end to mid-range handsets.
The user interface is simple, direct, and user-friendly. Most actions can be done with less than 3 button clicks. People with busy schedules will appreciate the clear font size utilized, as it saves time and effort reading through your messages. Add to that, a history feature is available to review your previous conversations with a given person.
A new feature is the “Smart Desktop” feature enabling you to organize and review your appointments, notes, and events with ease.
Keypad
Moving on to the T715’s keypad, we found it to be extremely handy for anyone on the move. The keypad is large and clear under sunlight. The D-pad direction pressing works great and the call and end call buttons are embossed for easier access.
Camera and Multimedia
Music is one of T715’s strongest multimedia areas. You can easily listen to FM radio, MP3, or AAC file formats. Taking such strength from its Walkman cousins, the T715 delivers sound with clarity. However, it did not inherit any advanced audio features such playlist options and one-click playback.
The 3.2 Megapixel camera is definitely no Cybershot, but offers good quality with great options such as: burst-shoot, video, and panoramic modes. Unlike Cybershot handsets, it has no flash.
Upon downloading the images to your computer, you’ll notice a clear discrepancy between the on-screen and handset screen image. On-screen, you’ll find clear pixilation and poor lighting in need of adjustment and manipulation.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The T715’s comes with a pleasant surprise: a 3G network connection. Such a fact adds a great plus on the T715’s margin. You can download from and browse the Internet with ease and speed. We found Google Maps tucked away in the menus, which is a great plus for anyone on the move. On the other hand, the T715 handset lacks Wi-Fi connectivity.
Battery life is excellent averaging between 3-4 days. If you’re a multimedia buff, expect to recharge your handset on a daily basis.
What We Liked
We liked the Sony Ericsson T715 for its 3.2 Megapixel camera, Google Maps, sophisticated design, and 3G connectivity.
What We Disliked
We disliked the Sony Ericsson’s T715s basic performance multimedia and camera features and lack of Wi-Fi integration.
Our Final Verdict
The Sony Ericsson T715 is an affordable handset that can be purchased a mid-way solution between the Walkman and Cybershot lines. Its solid, sophisticated design makes a great choice for someone looking for quality features and a chic look and feel.
